I Say, Let Them Protest and Protect Them

I was 12 years old when the song “Ohio” hit the radio airwaves, and I cannot help thinking about the history of this song, my personal history as a child growing up in the 70s, my history as a college professor, and the current situation at Universities all over the United States.

I am worried that students will be injured and even killed at these protests.

I say, let them protest and keep them safe. The right to protest is our right as Americans.

I am worried about and want an end to the discrimination of Jewish, Palestinian, and Zionist students on these campuses.

I want every war to end. I am anti-war.

I want a peaceful resolution. I am anti-violent.

I want Hamas destroyed.

I want an honest, completely free-speech dialogue between students, faculty, and the government on these campuses.

I am anti-facism.

I want the hostages brought home. Bring them home now.

I don’t want anyone to stop talking about how they feel.

I don’t want my friends or any other academic who still work or teach to feel like they cannot say a word about this or be fired.
