I usually post this information around fundraising time, but I cannot think of a better time than now to mention this organization. For I cannot think of a more trying time for the military and veteran military members of our community, members who are still processing trauma, the military members who are out there right now defending countries, their wives, children, extended families, lovers, primary breadwinners back at home taking care of everything while they are gone. Widows and widowers, partners, lovers, family members, children of deceased veterans.
I am known to say this when engaged in conversation with a new person:
“I am going to warn you, I am a proud bleeding heart, liberal Democrat…”
I am opposed to war. I wish all wars would end.
But when I found this organization, sat in on their workshops, it gave me new insight into who exactly is out there, and how creativity and art-making can heal the entire community inside and outside war.
I will encourage you to take a look at this organization: https://cbaw.org/, maybe even sit in on one of their workshops, and maybe like me recommend it to former and active soldiers, spouses, family members, and others sitting in waiting rooms. For some reason it happens a lot for me in waiting rooms. One time I told a former soldier now nurse in her homeland about the organization while she was taking my blood pressure. I usually pull out my cell phone, find CBAW website on my google search, and say, “So look at this organization…”
I have never once been sorry.
